When the XO Community Development Initiative took in a donated 1988 bass boat in need of a complete retrofit, our volunteers took up the challenge. We are now enhancing social services by taking veterans out for a day of fishing on a Houston area lake. All of the equipment, safety gear and a one day state required fishing license is provided by XO. The XO Community Development Initiative believes that those who have had arrest or conviction experience are a unique and underserved population. Our goal is to partner with and mentor those in pre-release settings who wish to make great strides toward their long-term future by adding to their education while incarcerated. For those with a nexus to the justice system, building blocks of support with our partners include addressing the “whole person” such as recognition of, and support for, addiction and/or mental health struggles along the way.
